Generally I prepare coconut chutney using phutane chana dal…once I asked my choti mami how here in hotels it is prepared…she told we roast the chana dal and grind it.
So last time I did in that way and it tastes just same like hotel style.So this yummy chutney is dedicated to my choti mami Rashmi Aunty…lets get started

Preparation Time 5 min
Cooking Time 5 min
Serving Persons 4

Ingredients Required

1  cup chana dal
2 tbsp of grated coconut
1 big garlic clove
½  inch ginger
2 green chili
¼ tsp cumin seeds
water to make the chutney
Salt to taste

For Tadka

 1 tsp oil
½  tsp mustard seeds
½ tsp udad dal
a pinch of asafoetida
10-12 curry leaves

Dry roast the chana dal for 4-5 min in low flame.
Then add all the rest ingredients to this and adding water make a smooth thick paste.
Remove to a bowl…how much constiency you want,by adding water you can adjust.
Now prepare the tadka.
Heat oil,add all rest ingredients.
When mustard seeds start crackle and udad dal turns light golden colour,add the sizzling tadka to chutney and mix it well.
Serve with idli,dosa,vada,upma…and enjoy the breakfast.

If you want to do without coconut…you can skip this.
If you want ot make it more spicy and red in colour,roast some dry red chili with this.
In Odisha in hotels they serve us thick version and thin type also…we like both.
