
Habisha Dalma(Odissa Pooja Dal)
Dalma is a famous dish in Odissa it is nothing but mixed vegetables cooked in dal…mummy of all dals u can say
This is prepared in temples of odissa and offered to God…made generally in the month of Kartika, in Odissa whole Kartika month ladies do habisha brata(fasting) taking only one time food in the afternoon…
Ingredients
1/2 cup moong dal
2 tsp ghee
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp red chili powder
1 red chili
1 tsp cumin powder
1/2 inch ginger crushed
salt to taste
water to make gravy
1 n 1/2 cup of vegetables such as
cut into thick slices
pumpkin
plantain(raw banana)
radish
raw papaya
yam
arum(some vegetables u can omit if not available)
Use of potato,tomato,brinjal is avoided in this dal when prepared only for habisha.
Procedure
First dry roast moong dal so when u cook it it will not sticky…n have nice taste.
Then soak it for 15 min. Mean while heat ghee, add cumin seeds n red chili.
When it start splutter add all vegetables with crushed ginger and stir fry for 2-3 min.
Now add soaked moong dal,salt,red chili powder n water.
Cover the lid n wait for two sities. Garnish with cumin powder.
Serve hot with steamed rice….
