Lauki-Chanadal Curry

Lauki or bottle-gourd is generally not liked by people but this one just exception…

this dish well goes with chapati n rice….


1 medium lauki peeled and cut into cube size

1/2 cup chana dal

1 medium onion big cubes

2 medium tomatoes big cubes

2 green chili chopped

1 inch ginger

2 garlic cloves

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1/4 tsp cumin powder

1/4 tsp garam masala

1/2 tsp coriander powder

1 n 1/2 tsp oil

1/8 tsp cumin seeds

salt to taste

chopped coriander leaves for garnishing


Soak chana dal for 1 hour.

Heat 1/2 tsp oil n add cumin seeds, after 30 sec add onion,tomatoes,green chili, ginger n garlic,saute for 2-3 min.

Now make it cool down n grind it to a smooth paste.

Heat the rest 1 tsp oil and add the paste,stir till masala start loosing oil.

Add all spices to this.Now add  water,lauki n chanadal. Stir properly.

Cover the lid for 3-4 min n let it cook for 10-15 min in medium flame.In between stir it 3-4 times.(If u want to get it quickly done pressure cook lauki n chanadal for 2 sitis)

But in pan it gives more taste… check whether lauki n chandal weel cooked or not.

Garnish with coriander leaves.Serve hot with chaptati or rice…
