Sambaar is basically from south india but now its popular all over the country…

It can be taken with idly,dosa,uttapa,upma,rice….

When i make dosa or idly Sarthika confirming that whether i make sambaar or chutney…if sambaar she will take more


1/2 cup tuar daal

1/2  cup orange masoor daal

1/2 cup brinjal cubes

1/3 cup raddish slices(more for sarthika)

1/4 cup pumpkin slices

1/4 cup carrot cubes

1/2 cup chopped tomatoes

10-15 small onions or shallots

U can use bhendi,drumstick,potatoes also…

Bhendi n Drumstick can be paraboiled seprately and atlast added to sambar

2 green chili chopped

2 tsp tamarind juice

3 tsp sambar powder

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

salt to taste

2 tsp oil

1 tsp panchphoran(mustard seeds+fennel seeds+kalonji+cumin seeds+methi)

1 red chilli

10 curry leaves

1 tsp kasuri methi


Soak tuar dal for 30 min.

Pressure cook it adding salt,turmeric powder and 2 drops oil with water till dal completely mashed.

Now add all veggies to the dal and pressure cook 2 sitis. Boil it.

Soak tamarind and bringout the juice. Add this n sambar powder to dal.

Now heat oil ,ad panchphoran, curry leaves n red chilli. Add this to dal.

Rub kasuri methi with hand n sprinkle over sambar to enhance the taste.
