Tomato Khajuri Khatta this is one of a famous dish of Odisha…in function,marriage parties it is a must recipe.When combined with rice just an awesome combo.IT is a combination of sweet,sour n spicyness…chatpata type.So lets get started

Serving Persons 3 to 4
Ingredients
3 medium tomato cubes
8-10 dates
50 gm of jaggery
1/3 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp kashmiri red chili powder
1/2 tsp cumin red chili powder
3 to 4 green chili slitted
10-12 curry leaves
2 tsp oil
1 tsp panchphoran
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
Grated coconut for garnishing
Salt to taste
2/3 cup water
Procedure
Heat oil,add pancha phoran.
When mustard seeds starts crackle add kashmiri red chili powder in hot oil.
Saute for few seconds in low flame.
Then add green chili,grated ginger to this.
Next goes in curry leaves and tomato cubes.
Add salt,turmeric powder to this and let it cook for some time till the tomatoes are mushy in texture.
Now add jiggery to this and let it melts.
Next goes the jiggery and let it cook for some time.
I have added little water to this to make it semi thick gravy type.
Let it boil for some time and it s done.
Finally add cumin red chili powder,chopped coriander leaves,mix it well.
Garnish with grated coconut…and it s done.
Serve hot with steamed rice n dal.
Notes
You can add sugar instead of jaggery.
You can make it thick or thin,according to that add water.
You can remove the seeds from dates and use it.
We like a s a whole…so we used like this.
You can add a bay leaf also.
I have added kashmiri red chili powder as it gives nice colour and it is less psicy also.
Saute the kashmiri red chili powder in hot oil…in this way you get a nice colour to the gravy.
